SIDS

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), is something that scares most mommy's out there. I can't tell you how nervous I was about this happening to my little one. I remember doing research and more research on tips and tricks on how to help prevent SIDS. Here are some tips that we followed in our family...
  • Breastfeed
  • Place your infant "back to sleep"
  • No smoking
  • Pacifier
  • Fans
  • No bumpers, sleep positioners, blankets or stuffed animals on the crib
The last one was a little hard for me because I wanted a beautiful crib for my little one. But is it worth the risk? No. So to compromise with the bumper I purchased a "breathable" bumper, that was made out of mesh. This way when he did start to roll over he would not get stuck in the crib slits. As for blankets that was a hard one as well. Instead I made sure that Tyler was dressed warm enough so that he would not need a blanket.
Even though I followed all the rules, I still found myself checking on him two or three times while he was sleeping. Annoying I know, but it was the only way to calm my nerves. Check out the link below to the American SIDS Institute for more information.
